“The African Americans — Many Rivers to Cross” (8 p.m., PBS): In the documentary series, “The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross,” Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates chronicles the history of black America, beginning with the 16th century.

“Ravenswood” (9:02 P.M., ABC FAMILY): “Ravenswood” is a creepy spin off “Pretty Little Liars” that has Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) learning about a deadly curse linked to Ravenswood’s bizarre history.

“Chasing Nashville” (10 p.m., Lifetime): This new reality series follows four teens from Appalachia as they pursue their dreams of becoming country music stars. The opener takes us to the annual Hillbilly Days singing competition.

Disasters exhibit at steel museum

YOUNGSTOWN

“Disasters in Mahoning Valley History,” a new exhibition at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor (aka the steel museum), 151 W. Wood St., will open Wednesday at 4 p.m. Admission is free.

The temporary exhibit, which will be on display in the Archives, was developed and executed by students in the Museum Curation and Interpretation class at Youngstown State University.

The cases feature four different disasters: The Great Flood of 1913, the Thanksgiving Day Snowstorm of 1950, the Wheatland Tornado of 1985 and “Black Monday” Sept. 19, 1977.

Railroad seminar

Darlington, Pa.

The Little Beaver Historical Society’s annual Ohio-Pennsylvania Railroad Seminar will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 718 Market St.

Keynote sessions Friday will include explorations of Woodlawn and Southern (Aliquippa) streetcars and a history of J&L Steel Co.’s Crow and Hog Island and basic oxygen furnace. Cost for the Friday sessions is $10 and will include refreshments.

Saturday sessions include discussion of J&L’s blast furnaces, Aliquippa and Southern Railroad, Carbon Limestone and the Western Allegheny Railroad.

Pre-registration cost for the Saturday sessions, which include lunch, is $20; at the door, the cost will be $25. The cost to attend both sessions is $30.
