Dead animals, drug paraphernalia found at West Side house

YOUNGSTOWN — Humane agents removed a dead cat and five dead kittens this afternoon from a house at 437 Division St. on the city’s West Side.

Two live mixed-breed dogs and a live bird were also removed from the house, said Christopher Flak, a humane agent from Animal Charity in Boardman.

The house’s occupants have been jailed since their arrest last week by Austintown police on burglary charges, he said.

The house contained suspected drug paraphernalia and was littered with feces, he said.

There was no cat food and no litter box for the cat or kittens, said Kymberly Woodburn, another humane agent.

Animal-cruelty charges likely will be filed, Flak said.

The humane agents were accompanied by city police.

Austintown police came to the house to check for possible additional evidence in the burglary case.

City housing inspectors were also on the scene to examine the premises.
