Todd Muckleroy’s Prime Time class at Canfield High School is hosting a 5K walk/run Sunday to benefit The Water Project at The Canfield Fairgrounds in front of the Colonial Inn building. Registration will start at 8:30 a.m., and the walk/run will start at 10 a.m.

The Water Project Inc. is a nonprofit organization that unlocks human potential by providing sustainable water projects to communities in sub-Saharan Africa who suffer from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. Schools announce sponsorship

Several Mahoning Valley schools and day-care centers have announced their sponsorship of the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Agencies include the Community Action Agency of Columbiana County Inc. Head State Program, Lads n Lasses Academy/Wee Care Day Care and Learning Centre, Zion Christian School, Sister Jerome’s Schools doing business as Millcreek Children’s Center, Kids First Childcare Center, Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership Head Start Program, Kollege Tots and Kids II Inc. and Kidstown Childcare and Preschool.

Ohio PTA will release guide

As part of its ongoing commitment to support parents and educators as the Common Core State Standards are implemented in classrooms across the state, the Ohio PTA has announced the launch of the Ohio Common Core State Standards Assessment and Accountability Guide created by National PTA.

“Ohio PTA has been a forerunner in educating parents and communities about the Common Core State Standards,” said Lisa Mack, president. “We are thrilled to release this new assessment guide as a tool to bring further understanding of the standards.”

The guides are available in English and Spanish online at www.PTA.org/studentsuccess. They will be rolled out through 2014.
