Youngstown native writes first book

Youngstown native Brandi Boddie has released her first novel, “The Preacher’s Wife,” and it’s available in bookstores and online.

Her book follows the journey of Rowe Winford, a Civil War veteran-turned-preacher making a new life in the small town of Assurance, Kan. He meets saloon girl Marissa Pierce, who seeks to reform her life. Themes of faith, forgiveness and overcoming prejudice and adversity resound in the book, which is the first in her Brides of Assurance trilogy.

“The Preacher’s Wife” is available at Barnes and Noble in Boardman and on amazon.com in paperback and in Kindle format.

Boddie is the daughter of Jerald F. Stewart and the late Patricia A. Cousin Stewart. She has a juris doctorate from Howard University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Youngstown State University. She lives in Colorado.

Rogers author sets book-signing event

EAST LIVERPOOL

Kathryn Blystone Watkins, a Rogers resident, has planned a book-signing event for her series, Log Cabin Stories, from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Java Jo House, 514 E. 5th St.

The series of children’s books comes from her love of animals and more than 45 years of research. She and her husband own a log cabin on their 70-acre farm.

The series contains more than 40 books.
