YOUNGSTOWN

In celebration of its 15th anniversary, the Center for Community Empowerment will host “An Evening in White” dinner-dance fundraiser Nov. 2 at Rockford Community Center, 1420 Dogwood Lane.

The event is hailed as the first Kimmelbrook reunion.

Rockford Village has replaced the former Kimmelbrook Homes housing development on the city’s East Side.

The dinner will begin at 6 p.m., and the dance will feature DJ Ronnie Rupert. Tickets, which can be purchased at the agency, are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

White attire is appreciated but not required.

CCE will also honor Maryann Wright and Mary L. Hooks, longtime residents and neighbors.

There also will be tributes presented to Ora McCain Barrett, director of the former Hanson Community Center, and Mildred Payne, housing manager of the housing complex.

Both women served the Kimmelbrook neighborhood and residents.

Since its founding, CCE has provided Child Enrichment Day Care and Preschool Program, after-school programming and the NewBirth Project Re-entry Initiative, which is designed especially for the ex-offender population.

The programs, among the many other services provided by CCE, are community resources.
