POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

Oct. 13

Menacing: Two women in the 10 block of East Prospect Street said a family member tried to entice one of the accusers to a fight.

Oct. 15

Theft: A man reported having been cheated of $40 while at a U.S. Route 422 grocery store.

Theft: An Abbey Street couple discovered a $750 alto saxophone and smaller items stolen and that the saxophone had been pawned.

Breaking and entering/criminal damaging: Someone cut a hole and damaged a portion of a fence before breaking into Summit Firearms, 1715 N. State St. Also damaged was a storage lock.

Oct. 16

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a residence in the 500 block of Park Avenue, where $1,900 worth of jewelry was missing.

Harassment: A North Avenue man said a former employer has sent him unwanted text messages.

Criminal mischief: A pumpkin was taken from a porch in the 100 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road and smashed in the street.

Assault: Officers answered a disturbance call in the 1100 block of North Highland Avenue, where a woman reportedly had struck another woman and her boyfriend. The female accuser was not injured, though her boyfriend had small cuts near his throat, a report showed.

Theft: A woman reported a 50-inch flat-screen TV, a dog-tag necklace, a ring and various articles of clothing stolen from her Crumlin Avenue home.

Oct. 17

Assault: A man told officers another man twice punched his left cheek during an altercation in the 30 block of West Wilson Avenue.

Menacing: A man and a woman at a West Wilson Avenue business reported a man has made numerous threatening and unwanted calls there.

LIBERTY

Oct. 9

Aggravated menacing: A Burning Tree Lane woman reported a laborer she had hired last month to help her move threatened to harm the accuser and implied she should die as part of a dispute regarding money owed.

Oct. 10

Misuse of a credit card: A Youngstown man found four unauthorized charges totaling $299 on his credit-card statement, including one that had been made at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.

Menacing: A Liberty woman told police a 36-year-old Youngstown man threatened to kill her during an argument about their teenage daughter while the two were at Belmont Pines Hospital, 615 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

Possible breaking and entering: Authorities who received a call pertaining to a burglary in progress in the 300 block of Colonial Drive reported seeing three people loading boxes onto a pickup truck. One of the three, a 44-year-old Youngstown woman, admitted having entered the residence but said she was retrieving personal property, and no charges were filed.

Theft: Police at the Mahoning County jail booked 45-year-old Wanda M. Duck of East Delason Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on three warrants charging theft.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Goldie Road led to the arrest of 31-year-old D’Andre W. Berger of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Youngstown, on charges of violating a protection order from Franklin County, Ohio, and driving under suspension. Berger also was wanted on a Youngstown warrant.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Roosevelt Drive woman said a neighbor took her husband’s 2000 Buick vehicle without permission.

Assault: A Hilliard, Ohio, woman at a Belmont Avenue motel reported a Youngstown man, 36, grabbed her hair, threw her to the ground and punched her face during an argument regarding a text message she had received.

Theft: After responding to the attempted theft of a flat-screen TV at Walmart and conducting a traffic stop in the 3000 block of Belmont Avenue, officers charged Gayle R. Lee, 45, and Jack Porter Jr., 47, both of Woodglen Avenue, Niles, with theft. Lee also was charged with possession of drug-abuse instruments after police said syringes were found, and both were wanted on warrants.

Arrest: Justin L. Brown, 24, of South Evanston Avenue, Youngstown, was taken into custody at Mahoning County jail. He was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.

Oct. 12

Menacing: A woman told authorities that while walking on Belmont Avenue, a woman in a passing car tossed a water bottle at and threatened the accuser but did not strike her.

Drugs: Officers in the 3100 block of Belmont Avenue pulled over and charged 33-year-old Lester Stanford with drug abuse and driving under suspension after alleging Stanford, of Logangate Road, Liberty, had 1.8 grams of suspected marijuana in a device commonly used to grind marijuana.

Criminal damaging: A key was used to damage the finish on a truck’s driver’s-side doors in the 20 block of James Lane.

Oct. 13

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: An employee for Valley Grocers Wholesale Inc., 1282 Trumbull Ave., said a co-worker took a work van home overnight without permission.

Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue handed Morgan J. Horton of Manhattan Avenue, Youngstown, to township authorities. The 30-year-old Horton was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.

Theft: A Youngstown woman discovered her wallet missing from her purse while shopping at a Goldie Road store.

Breaking and entering: Someone forced open a building door in the 3600 block of Belmont Avenue, rummaged through the office and took about $150.

Oct. 14

Aggravated menacing: A Youngstown man near Northgate and Green Acres drives told authorities one of two men in hooded sweat shirts pointed a gun at him. A warrant was issued for the gunman’s arrest, a report said.

Oct. 15

Arrest: Police took custody of 30-year-old Michael N. Shellow of Maple Creek Drive, Youngstown, who was wanted on a township warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court.

Breaking and entering: Three 5-gallon gas cans, a weed trimmer, a chain saw and a leaf blower were removed from a shed in the 800 block of Colonial Drive.

Theft: A man reported a book bag containing a laptop computer and other items stolen from his vehicle, likely when he was on Leopard Way.

Oct. 16

Fraud: A Barth Drive woman learned her stolen credit card had been used in Niles without authorization.

Theft: An Overbrook Avenue man reported a prescription for an antibiotic was stolen from his car in the 4400 block of Logan Way.

Citation: A traffic stop in the 1900 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road resulted in a citation charging 24-year-old Edward L. Green of Patricia Drive, Girard, with operating a vehicle impaired.

Theft: Someone stole an undisclosed sum of money from a machine at PDQ Carwash Inc., 1951 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.
