A sudden rain storm turned the West Boulevard Elementary PTA tailgate Oct. 4 into a party in the gym, but the students didn’t seem to mind. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Parent Teacher Association.

“It raises funds for the PTA to do everything else for the whole rest of the year,” said Nikkie Krut, co-chair. “It allows us not to have to do a million fundraisers and it gives the kids a chance to get together outside of the school environment.”

Music for the event was provided by Dynomite Entertainment. Children danced to songs such as “We are the Champions” and “Gangnam Style.”

They also enjoyed refreshments and took turns jumping in a bounce house.

“The kids have a blast,” said Tammy Hammar, co-chair.

Emily Clause, a third-grader at West, attended for the first time. She said she had fun.

Her friend, Allyson Fleming, also in the third grade at West, agreed. She is a regular attendee of the annual event.

To raise funds, more than 25 items were donated by members of the community for a Chinese Auction and the PTA donated two bicycles. A 50/50 raffle was included.

Money raised is used to fund events such as a teacher dinner and fourth grade picnic.
