The Ursuline Preschool and Kindergarten celebrated its 50th anniversary with a Fall Festival for students, families, guests and alumni Sept. 28.

The backyard of the school was transformed into an old time carnival, complete with games such as hit the cans, doughnuts on a string, sack race, sucker pull, pumpkin bowling and fish pong. Attendees could also make their own pinwheel.

Cotton candy, kettle corn and hot dogs were also available for everyone and Woodee the clown provided entertainment for the crowd.

“I would like say thank you to all our parent volunteers. They put in lots of hours for this carnival. We have a lot of dedicated moms who did this all for the kids,” said Nancy Wolfgang, Fall Festival chair, who worked with a committee of six moms.

Several school families donated items for the carnival and Burnett Pools sponsored the fish pong booth. Members of Alpha Si Omega, the theaters honors fraternity at Youngstown State University, helped work the booths while earning service hours.

The event was also the grand opening of the school’s newly updated play center. Attendees were able to get an up close look at the play center as they walked through the center before entering the carnival. Wolfgang, a professor of theater and dance at YSU, and her husband, Kevin, painted a mural on the wall of the play center in honor of the children at the school.

The school will continue to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a Christmas event and a Prince and Princess Ball in March.
