Students from Union Elementary School gave back to the community Sept. 20.

Six students in grades kindergarten through fourth, accompanied by principal Michael Masucci, planted flowers in front of the Cocca’s Pizza sign on 18 E. McKinley Way in Poland.

The students participating were Dulci DiGregorio (kindergarten), Mary Brant (second grade), Cole Fulton (second grade), Bryce Barringer (third grade), Hannah Masucci (fourth grade) and Abigail Crow (fourth grade).

Masucci said different students do this every fall and spring.

“It’s a great way for the students to develop more pride in their community,” said Masucci. “It’s also a good way for the school to develop a good relationship with local businesses.”

After the students planted the flowers, they were give a tour of Cocca’s to see how and where the pizza is made. Then they were treated to pizza and pop.

Jim Vivacqua, store manager of the Poland location said Cocca’s is very grateful for the students’ help.

“We couldn’t be more appreciative of them giving their time, and doing such a nice job,” said Vivacqua. “They do a great job every year.”
