Canfield athletes head to state
Canfield High School traditionally sends its athletes off to State-level competition by way of a walk-through. It involves everyone being called out into the school hallways and the student-athletes headed off to State walking through the halls and receiving wishes of congratulations and good luck. The coaches and often parents of the players involved are present.
Canfield sent its girls’ varsity golf team and a girls’ tennis doubles team to Columbus for their respective state tournaments.
The golf team includes: Christina Cooper (11th), Michele Whiteleather (12th), Kerra Loomis (11th), Olivia DeMartino (12th) and Kaci Carpenter (10th), and is coached by Diane McCall.
The girls tennis doubles team includes Ashley Kaleel (10th) and Hannah Cianciola (ninth).
Girls soccer shutout Salem
The Canfield girls soccer team played their last regular season game on Oct. 9. They entered the match 10-2-3. Their opponent was the Lady Quakers from Salem, who came onto the game with a 10-4 record.
Canfield tallied its eighth shut out on the season with a 8-0 score for the evening. The final regular season record for the Lady Cards is 11-2-3.
Goals this were scored by seniors Paige Bidinotto (captain) with two, Olga Condoleon, Marisa Severino and Elena Billy; remaking goals were scored by Bailey Fisher and two for Sophia Mancini.
Assists were contributed by Elena Billy, Bailey Fisher (2), Paige Bidinotto, Haley Klacik, Sydney Milker (2) and Sophia Mancini.
Canfield blasted 32 shots to two for Salem.
The Canfield junior varsity girls won 2-0. Goals were scored by Ashlyn Cleevey and Lily Hoge.
Canfield defeats Niles
The Niles Red Dragons boys soccer team hosted the Canfield Cardinals Oct. 8. Canfield’s six goals were scored by Ben Fuer with two, Nick Phillips, and seniors Treavor English, Brady Clark and Ronnie Mangie. Assists for the Cardinals were Nick Phillips, Frank Phillips with three assists, Ronnie Mangie, and Maleck Saleh. The Cardinals outshot the Dragons 34-2. The cardinal goalkeeper had one save. The final score was Canfield 6-0.
Basketball team fundraiser
The Canfield High School Baseball Team is hosting its Annual Fundraising Dinner on Oct. 27 at St. Michael Parish Hall from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
