Prosecutor will consider charges in Ohio U. rape case

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — The county prosecutor says he’ll meet with police investigators on Monday to talk about whether charges should be filed in an alleged rape near Ohio University last weekend.

The incident early Sunday on an Athens street gained international attention when video and photos taken by witnesses were widely circulated via social media.

Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn says investigators have identified the man and woman involved. Blackburn is meeting with police to discuss the evidence and says it could go to the grand jury for consideration Oct. 28.

Explicit photos of the incident were tweeted and quickly re-posted across the Internet. Later the woman contacted police and reported she was a victim of a sexual assault.

Police are examining photos posted to social media as part of the investigation.
