Ohio officer gets probation in smuggling case

CINCINNATI (AP) — A former Ohio police officer who once received a medal of valor has been sentenced to probation stemming from his connection to a marijuana-smuggling operation.

Bryon Roos avoided jail time when he was sentenced in federal court in Cincinnati today, instead getting two and a half years of probation.

Roos admitted to depositing money meant to avoid bank-reporting requirements as part of the operation that involved at least 10 other men.

The others received sentences ranging from four to 14 years in prison.

Roos’ attorney says the former officer in the Cincinnati suburb of North College Hill is extremely remorseful and is now a stay-at-home dad focusing on his 4-month-old son.

Roos had gotten a medal of valor for saving a woman from a burning home.
