Boardman Lions had their fifth annual New Coats for Kids Program at Target in Boardman on Oct. 1. There were 53 Boardman families who were experiencing financial difficulties and qualified to attend the night at Target to select their new coats. 116 happy children received coats and a snack was provided by Target.

The goal is to buy as many coats as possible without going over the soft budget. This large budget is due not only to our club’s generosity, but also that of the community. People love the project, because everything stays local.

Qualified applicants were notified by mail and invited to a night at Target to select their coats. After shopping for their coats, the family was given a snack and asked to complete an evaluation survey.

In the last four years Boardman Lions Club have purchased 276 coats, and have spent $11,525.

This year alone the Lions spent $4913.29 on 116 coats. The club has already started fund raising for next year.

Anyone who would like to donate to the program can visit the Boardman Lion’s website at www.boardmanlions.com.
