Two people indicted on burglary charges in Trumbull County

A 26-year-old Hubbard woman was indicted on two burglary charges connected to an Aug. 11 break-in at a house in the 2400 block of Berkshire Drive Southeast.

Jamie L. Gillespie will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

If convicted, she could get 10 years in prison.

Police said the 21-year-old man living at the residence caught Gillespie committing the burglary and held her down until police arrived.

The theft involved jewelry valued at $167, police said.

Also indicted Wednesday was Justin E. Smith, 20, of Laird Avenue Southeast. He’s charged with one count of aggravated burglary, which also carries a possible 10-year prison term if convicted.

He also will be arraigned Wednesday.

The charge relates to a break-in Aug. 27 at a house in the 100 block of Charles Avenue Northeast. A Warren police report doesn’t list anything taken from the residence, but it says the victim of the aggravated burglary, a 50-year-old man, suffered a minor injury in the incident.

Also Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, Darius Simmons, 37, of Orlo Street Northwest, pleaded guilty to heroin trafficking and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Judge W. Wyatt McKay also ordered him to forfeit $1,123 in cash that was confiscated during the investigation.

The sentence will be served at the same time as a 15-year, eight-month prison sentence he received in Cleveland federal court on Tuesday on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and heroin possession with intent to distribute.

The charges relate to offenses he committed Jan. 26, 2013, and previous convictions in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court for other serious felonies over the past 15 years.
