The paragraph in question should have read:

Armstrong, Podolsky lift YSU women to win

Cleveland

Junior Cara Armstrong scored her team-leading third goal of the season and goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky (Canfield) posted her first shutout of the season as the Youngstown State women’s soccer team defeated Cleveland State, 1-0, Wednesday night at Krenzler Field.

Podolsky, who picked up her fourth win of the season, tallied six saves in the shutout. Armstrong found a loose ball in the box after a corner from Katie Hohmann and found the back of the net at the 58:21 mark of the second half.

The Penguins (4-9-1, 2-2 Horizon) tallied 10 shots, including six shots on goal, and survived 12 corner kicks by the Vikings (7-7-1, 1-3). YSU hosts Valparaiso Saturday at noon at Farmers National Bank Field.

Start time changes for Poland boys soccer

POLAND

The Poland Athletic Department has announced a time change to Saturday’s boys soccer Division II sectional final against Ravenna.

The game will begin at 1 p.m. at Poland Stadium, doors will open at noon. Student tickets are $4 and adult tickets are $6. No passes will be accepted at the gate.

The game originally was scheduled for 7 p.m.

Former coach Kokor to discuss Marshall

YOUNGSTOWN

Park Vista of Youngstown welcomes Carl Kokor, former Marshall University assistant football coach, at 2 p.m. today in the Park Vista Gathering Room, 1216 Fifth Ave.

Kokor, a Brookfield resident, helped coach the Marshall team when it was devastated by a plane crash that killed 75 of its members during the 1970 season. He will give an account of the events that took place from the crash to the rebuilding of the team in 1971. He will also discuss his work on the movie “We Are Marshall.”

Former Cavalier Carr is guest at YSU banquet

YOUNGSTOWN

Former Cleveland Cavalier great Austin Carr, now featured on the team’s local telecasts, will be guest speaker at the Youngstown State University men’s basketball banquet Sunday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Social Hall.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with a buffet at 5:30 and the program at 7. Tickets are $35 per person and tables of eight can be reserved for $280.

Lundqvist, Richards lead Rangers past Caps

Henrik Lundqvist earned his 46th NHL shutout, Brad Richards assisted on two New York goals less than two minutes apart in the second period, and the Rangers beat familiar postseason foe Washington 2-0 on Wednesday night to end a three-game losing streak. Richards helped set up goals by Ryan Callahan and John Moore, and Lundqvist made the limited offense hold up in a 22-save performance.

Mexican papers thank US for soccer victory

MEXICO CITY

America’s soccer team is getting some love from the most unlikely place: Mexican sports fans. Mexican newspapers on Wednesday published banner headlines reading “We Love You,” and “Thank You, USA,” after the U.S. kept Mexico’s World Cup qualifying hopes alive with a 3-2 victory over Panama.

Mexico and the U.S. are usually bitter rivals. Mexico lost its Tuesday match 2-1 against Costa Rica. If Panama had held onto its lead, Mexico would have been eliminated from the World Cup qualifying rounds.
