WARREN
A woman escaped from her home unharmed, but her house was nearly a total loss in a 5:30 a.m. Tuesday fire at 518 Third Street SW.
Marjorie Smith was awakened to the sound of the fire near the exterior of her bedroom, got out and called 911, said Warren Fire Chief Ken Nussle.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, but it caused extensive damage to the one-story structure, including a partial collapse of the roof. Damage was estimated at $25,000 to the house and $10,000 to the contents.
The fire started on an exterior wall near the electrical service to the home, but it’s too early to tell whether the fire was accidental or arson, Nussle said.
Smith was provided shelter by the American Red Cross.
