John Rolf has been named CEO of the Trumbull County YMCA and will begin his duties Oct. 28, replacing Rich Denamen, who is retiring.

Rolf comes to Trumbull County from Cleveland, where he was employment specialist with a nonprofit agency, Recovery Resources.

Rolf also is founder of Back to Basics Fitness and Wellness and served 20 years as general manager for the Cleveland Athletic Club. He is an avid sport and fitness enthusiast and creator of Tour Ohio, an event that includes kayaking, cycling and hiking throughout Ohio.

He also is publisher and writer of Ohio Active, a nonprofit Web-based magazine focused on healthy living and recreational activity. He serves as Leave No Trace master educator, teaching, leading and demonstrating back-country camping and hiking techniques to reduce impact on wilderness environments.

He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in exercise physiology from Cleveland State University.

“As sorry as we are to see the retirement of our current CEO, Rich Denamen, we are equally pleased to welcome John Rolf as our new CEO,” said Dick Thompson, chief volunteer officer for the Trumbull YMCA. “The YMCA membership will soon appreciate the depth of experience that John will bring to the organization and find his enthusiasm contagious.”
