Campbell police arrest felon for having a gun

CAMPBELL

Police arrested a 40-year-old Campbell man — who recently served a prison sentence for an involuntary manslaughter conviction — after finding a .45-caliber handgun with seven live rounds in a pocket of his pants.

At about 11 p.m. Saturday, officers noticed that a car driving on 12th Street had a burned-out license plate light, then initiated a traffic stop. Police immediately noticed a large object in the right front pants pocket of the driver, identified as Leroy Gore Jr. of the 200 block of Hamilton Avenue.

Gore was charged with carrying concealed weapons and for being a felon in possession of a gun, as well as for the burned-out light. He will appear in court on Tuesday.

Police said they will be meeting soon with federal agents to determine whether Gore, a convicted felon, will be charged federally for possessing a firearm.

Gore’s conviction in 2004, and subsequent prison sentence, stemmed from a 1999 murder charge. In addition, prior to his incarceration, Gore was arrested in Campbell in May 1999 for possessing marijuana, lying about his identity and having active outstanding arrest warrants.
