The Lakeview girls golf team played a better second round on Saturday, but couldn’t manage to make a move up the Division II state tournament leaderboard.

The Bulldogs started the round in seventh place and finished there with a team score of 357 on day two at Ohio State University’s Gray Course.

Lakeview’s top seed Kaylee Neumeister followed up a first round 78 with a round of 80 to finish tied for 11th individually.

Ryan Rosenberger shot an 84, Ashley Frasca had a 91 and Taylor Horn finished out the second round scoring with a 102.

“They were able to go out and have really nice starts and I think that was able to calm them a little bit,” Lakeview coach Mike Turco said.

He felt the pressure and atmosphere may have gotten to his girls the first day, after they shot a 369. Now that his team has experience at the state, he knows expectations are going to be higher.

“I told the girls after, ‘We’re a competitive team now,’ ” Turco said. “Our goals won’t change. We’re going to try and get back to the point we were at this year and with focus, hard work, and dedication they have a chance to do that.”

Gates Mills Hawken won its school’s first state title finishing 11 strokes better than second place Dover.

“The best part was the fun we had,” Turco said. “Being able to represent the area, along with JFK [boys team], was a great honor and we’re proud of that.”

Poland’s Melinda Hannon was also there as an individual participant, however she couldn’t overcome a first-round score of 90 and finished in 32nd place. She had a two-day score of 177 after shooting an 87 on Saturday.
