Little Cardinals 100 pound team gets second win
The Little Cards 100 pound team posted their second straight victory against cross town rival Poland Little Bulldogs.
The Cards were driving the ball down the field when Nick Beistel broke free for a 22-yard touchdown run. Nick Smyczynski converted the two point conversion, which gave the Little Cards an 8-0 lead, which in turn was the game winner. After a huge stop by the Cards defense, Canfield fumbled the ball away to give Poland the ball back with 30 seconds left in the half.
On their very next possession, Poland pulled off a reverse and scored to make the score 8-6. The defense came up big by stuffing the two point conversion on the one yard line.
The second half was dominated by Poland’s offense but the Cards defense came up big again by stopping them on their own eight yard line. After a set of downs, the Cards couldn’t produce a first down giving the ball back to Poland with three minutes left in the game. With time running out, Poland drove the ball down to their own 1.5-yard line.
With 40 seconds left on the clock and facing a fourth down, Poland muffed the snap and the Little Cards recovered to hold on for the exciting 8-6 victory.
The defense was led by Nick Beistel, Dom DiDonato, Nick Smyczynski, Noah Connelly, Phil McLaughlin, Jake Bednar, Zach Karas, Colton Tenney, and Peyton Nottingham.
The offense had 22 rushing attempts and 101-yards, led by Beistel’s 66-yards, Smyczynski’s 33-yards, and Bednar’s 12-yards. The offense was also powered by Caleb Ortiz, DiDonato, Connelly, Nottingham, Tenney, Logan Tsarnas, and Cody Myers.
