Girard illegal gambling trial postponed
GIRARD — A trial date for a man charged with running an illegal gambling establishment is postponed.
Liberty police raided Belmont Sweeps on Belmont Avenue, owned by Adam Syed, in February. He has pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer, Charles W. Olminsky Jr., said the business had sweepstakes machines, which were legal, and not slot machines.
The trial was set for Oct. 23, but it was postponed Thursday in Girard Municipal Court to allow the defense enough time to review more evidence.
