Canfield tennis duo qualifies for state

OBERLIN

Canfield’s No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Ashley Kaleel and Hannah Cianciolla punched its ticket to the Division I state tennis tournament by winning a pair of matches at Thursday’s district tournament at Oberlin College.

Canfield defeated Magnificat’s Tess Moran and Caitlin Harvey 6-2, 6-1 in the first round, then beat Solon’s Tinisee Kandakai and Monika Bandi 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals.

The top six teams qualify for the state tournament.

Saturday, Canfield will play Hoover’s No. 1 doubles team, which beat the Cardinals in three sets en route to winning last week’s sectional tournament. Hoover’s No. 2 doubles team and Westlake’s No. 1 team will play in the other semifinal.

There are no area singles players still alive in Div. I.
