Campbell man charged with rape

CAMPBELL — Police arrested a 53-year-old Campbell man for allegedly raping a 23-year-old Youngstown woman Wednesday.

The man, Floyd E. Ewell of Monroe Street, faces charges of rape and kidnapping/engaging in sexual activity.

According to the police report, the woman, who is a relative of Ewell's, was repeatedly assaulted and raped during the five hours she was forcibly held inside Ewell's residence.

In addition, Ewell threatened harm to both the woman and her family if she reported the incident or attempted to flee from the residence.

The woman did eventually escape, when Ewell permitted her to pick up his medication at the pharmacy. She then went to her house, where an ambulance picked her up and took her to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
