Humorist Sedaris to speak at lecture series

Best-selling author David Sedaris, one of the nation’s top humorists, will read from his latest book, “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls,” when he visits Powers Auditorium at 7 p.m. Oct. 30.

The presentation, part of Youngstown State University’s Skeggs Lecture Series, is free, but tickets are mandatory and are limited to four per person.

Sedaris is the author of Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice, as well as collections of personal essays, “Naked,” “Me Talk Pretty One Day,” “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim” and “When You Are Engulfed in Flames,” each of which became a bestseller. Seven million copies of his books are in print, and they have been translated into 25 languages. Sedaris’ pieces appear regularly in The New Yorker and have twice been included in The Best American Essays. His latest book is titled “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls.”

He and his sister, Amy Sedaris, have collaborated under the name “The Talent Family” and have written six plays.

Sedaris’s original radio pieces can often be heard on “This American Life,” distributed nationally by Public Radio International. Sedaris has been nominated for three Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy Album. His most recent live album is “David Sedaris: Live For Your Listening Pleasure.”
