N. Illinois 38, Kent State 24
KENT
Cameron Stingily ran for a career-high 266 yards and two scores for undefeated Northern Illinois (5-0, 1-0 Mid-American). James Spencer’s 22-yard touchdown run put Northern Illinois ahead 28-24. Spencer then scored on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Lynch on the Huskies’ following possession. Northern Illinois finished with 698 yards of total offense, 454 yards rushing. Kent State (2-4, 1-2) took the lead early in the third with a 28-yard touchdown pass from Colin Reardon (Poland) to Tyshon Goode.
Ohio 43, Akron 3.
AKRON
Tyler Tettleton threw for two touchdowns as Ohio (4-1, 1-0) started slow but scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 30-3 halftime lead. Tettleton finished with 171 total yards on 14-of-21 passing. Donte Foster was his top receiver as he pulled in four passes for 76 yards and one touchdown. Kyle Pohl lead Akron (1-5, 0-2), throwing for 101 yards. Robert Stein’s 31-yard field goal was Akron’s only score. The Bobcat defense stymied the Zips all day, limiting Akron to 157 total yards, and sacking Pohl eight times for total losses of 45 yards.
Bowling Green 28, UMass 7
BOWLING GREEN
Matt Johnson passed for 167 yards and three touchdowns to lead Bowling Green to a homecoming win. Johnson spread the attack, sending touchdown throws to three different receivers, including a 51-yard pass to Ronnie Moore in the first quarter to give the Falcons (5-1, 3-0) a lead they’d keep over the winless Minutemen (0-5, 0-1). TOLEDO
David Fluellen rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns for Toledo (3-3, 2-1). The Rockets ran up 360 rushing yards and limited Western Michigan (0-6, 0-2) to 87 yards on the ground.
Central Michigan 21, Miami 9
OXFORD
Saylor Lavallii rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns to lead Central Michigan. Lavallii rushed 19 yards for a score to give the Chippewas (2-4, 1-1) a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter. Miami (0-5, 0-1) responded in the third quarter when Austin Boucher found David Frazier for the 10-yard score. Central Michigan took the next drive and marched on a 16-play, 84-yard scoring drive, capped off with Lavallii’s 3-yard score.
Ball State 48, Virginia 27
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.
Keith Wenning threw for two touchdowns and ran for another for Ball State. Jahwan Edwards added three scoring runs for Ball State (5-1), which shredded a Virginia (2-3) defense that came in allowing only 299 yards per game. The Cardinals finished with 506 yards. Wenning had TD passes of 11 yards to Willie Snead in the second quarter and 72 yards to Jordan Williams — a fourth-quarter back-breaker that put the Cardinals up 41-27 and sent many in the crowd of 38,228 scurrying for the exits.
Buffalo 42, Eastern Michigan 14
BUFFALO, N.Y.
Branden Oliver gained 150 yards rushing and scored twice as Buffalo cruised. The Bulls (3-2, 1-0 MAC) broke the 40-point mark in back-to-back contests for the first time since 1981 and snapped a five-game losing streak against the Eagles (1-4, 0-2 MAC). Oliver set the tone early with a 60-yard touchdown run on Buffalo’s first possession of the game before adding a 2-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter. Ryan Brumfield had a 75-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter for the Eagles.
