Shoeless Youngstown woman thrown out in cold; boyfriend arrested

A man was arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court on Friday after police said he threw his girlfriend outside of their West Side apartment Wednesday morning, and she was not wearing a coat or shoes.

Kevin Derilus, 24, was arraigned on a charge of domestic violence before Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly after he was arrested at a Tyrell Avenue apartment about 6 a.m. Wednesday. He has a Dec. 6 preliminary hearing before Judge Robert Milich.

Police were called to the apartment for a domestic disturbance, and when they got there they met Derilus’ 21-year-old girlfriend, who told them she was sleeping when her baby started crying but she did not hear it, which upset Derilus.

Reports said Derilus woke her up by pulling her up by her hair and choking her and threw her outside without her shoes, coat or her phone.

Police tried to get inside the apartment to talk to Derilus, but even though the door was locked and two small children could be heard inside, Derilus refused to unlock it, reports said.

An apartment manager came and the victim gave officers permission to go inside. They found Derilus in a bathroom “grooming himself,” reports said.

A records check showed that Derilus had been convicted of domestic violence in August 2011, which made this charge a felony.

He also has warrants from Florida for drug offenses, and police notified Florida authorities that they had Derilus in custody, reports said.
