Jewish/Christian Studies/North will focus on the use of arts to convey faith traditions during a program Wednesday at Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way. The group gathers at 12:30 p.m. with the study at 1.

Theatrical traditions will be discussed by Dr. Dennis R. Henneman, professor emeritus, Youngstown State University drama department.

Hanging of greens

MINERAL RIDGE

First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., will conduct a hanging of the greens service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. An “ALTERnativity” lunch will follow with music, liturgy and candle lighting.

The liturgy focuses on three people from the Advent story — John the Baptist, Mary and Jesus — and reflects on what they are saying to us today. The meal is intended to be a time of reflection.

First Friday program

BOARDMAN

The Rev. Anthony Gittins of Catholic Theological Union will be the featured speaker when the First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown meets Thursday at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St.

The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $15.

Taiz service

VILLA MARIA, PA.

Villa Maria will host a Taiz prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Magnificat Chapel.

The Christian interdenominational prayer form includes music, Scripture and silence. Light refreshments and an opportunity for fellowship follow the prayer service.

Advent speakers

BOARDMAN

The Christian Formation Commission of St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive, will host an Advent speaker series from 7:40 to 8:15 a.m. Wednesdays.

Sessions planned are next week with Mary Therese Driscoll; Dec. 11, Paul Hershey; and Dec. 18, Patti Bartholomew.

They will focus on the parish theme “Make a Difference.”

Programs will be in the St. Matthew Room with a continental breakfast provided.

Living menorah

YOUNGSTOWN

The Place Where the Lord Provides, 104 W. Evergreen Ave., will celebrate the feast of dedication with a living Hanukkah menorah at 3 p.m. Sunday. Guest speaker will be Pastor Laurel Anderson of Arise Ariel Ministries in Elyria.
