Find refuge in God

Psalm 91:1-2 reads “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust.’”

In this Psalm of David, king of Israel, he is proclaiming the security of those who place their trust in the Lord.

The Lord, who does not change, cannot fail and will always care for His children, is the only sure hope for our lives.

There are those who will put their trust in the things of this world and will be disappointed.

To place our trust in the Living God will assure us of the hope of salvation, now and for eternity.

What is the personal message to us in this particular Psalm? It can be broken down into a few different points that may be applied to our lives today.

We have someone and somewhere to go for protection and peace. It is a choice we are free to make and one that nobody can take from us. Because it is a choice, it is for us a decision; a conscious decision that should be made daily. The word “dwell” means to reside, remain and keep one’s attention directed upon. When our focus is upon the Lord, powered by faith in our hearts, we will have peace and confidence. He is our shelter and protector from the storms of life.

In quietness and confidence of soul and spirit, we will have rest. Abiding under the shadow of the Almighty is remaining in a place that will provide a safety and guard for us. His everlasting arms are there to bring hope and assurance that all is well.

However, we must have faith and believe that it is true. Even if there are circumstances that dictate differently, faith will be the shield to protect and bring the peace that is needed.

For a moment, think about the meaning of “abiding in the shadow of the Almighty.” Its explanation is a simple one. For those who trust Jesus Christ, He is our shelter and a refuge, as we abide in His care.

In the shadow of the Lord we have protection from the elements of life, as we live and walk through life.

He is our “shelter” who protects us from heat, storms, fears, attacks and situations that come our way. Life cannot be avoided, and it is good to be alive, but for some it can be hard and sometimes very sad.

The hope professed in this Psalm will bring help and encouragement to continue the journey, with faith and confidence, knowing we are not alone.

Our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will provide the anchor and stability to make it through all things.

Psalm 46:1 reads, “God is our refuge and strength; a very present help in time of trouble.”

All we need to do is look to Him and His covering and strength will be more than enough. Underneath are His everlasting arms. Place yourself there today, in prayer, with faith and find in Him the covering, love and strength you need.

Remember John 3:16 , “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son” so you could have life and peace.

There is no greater love than this. Accept that love today, and keep your eyes on Jesus Christ, Who is the stability and security of your life.
