Federal attorneys, agent honored for LSP gang prosecution
YOUNGSTOWN
Two U.S. attorneys and a federal agent are being awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice for their prosecution of the LSP gang case in federal court.
Being honored with the Director’s Award for Superior Service by a United States Attorney are Robert F. Corts and Daniel J. Riedl. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agent John Smerglia was also honored with the United States Attorney’s Award for Distinguished Public Service.
The LSP gang was based on the South Side, and 22 people were convicted of gang related crimes, including racketeering and drug trafficking. Two leaders of the gang were sentenced to 65 and 37 years in prison, respectively.
