Police arrested a man on drug charges late Thursday evening after the car he was driving past a traffic stop emitted a strong odor of marijuana.
Officer Michael Medvec was outside his cruiser on a stop on the South Side about 10:35 p.m. when a car driven by 28-year-old James Edmonds of Coitsville drove by and Medvec could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the car.
Medvec called for backup and they followed the car to a drive in the 3000 block of Hudson Avenue. When officers went up to talk to Edwards and he opened the door, there was a very strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside.
Officers also noticed a bag of crack cocaine in the space between Edmond's socks and pants and found another bag on the other foot, reports said. Inside the car they found a burnt marijuana cigarette and $151 in cash.
Edmonds was arrested on charges of possession of drugs and trafficking in drugs as well as driving under suspension and taken to the Mahoning County jail. He is expected to be arraigned in Municipal Court today.
