FREMONT, Ohio

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the occupants of a van have been killed after a car being chased by troopers struck it near Fremont, causing it to burst into flames.

WTOL-TV reports that the highway patrol did not immediately know the number of victims in the crash around 7:15 p.m. Thursday. The 24-year-old man allegedly driving the speeding vehicle has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the speeding vehicle was traveling between 125 and 150 miles per hour and hit at least three other vehicles over the course of 17 miles. The turnpike’s westbound lanes are expected to be closed until early Friday.

Authorities recommend that motorists find alternate routes.
