Mahoning County Commissioner Edward J. Gilronan, a Republican, telegraphs a request to U.S. Rep. Michael J. Kirwan that the West Branch Reservoir be renamed as a memorial to President John F. Kennedy.

1938: City Engineer Albert R. Haenny says Youngstown is financially unable to remove snow the streets as some other cities do, noting that his department has an annual appropriation of $34,319 for snow and dirt removal, compared to Akron’s expenditure of $136,380.

Two boys, Edward Barrett, 13, and Joseph Yorko, 15, are injured in a hit-skip sledding accident. The motorist is arrested later.
