The fifth annual “Light Up the Night” event is to get underway at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at Heartreach Ministries, 211 Redondo Road on the North Side.

The two-hour gathering will give participants on two buses the opportunity to see a variety of Christmas lights and decorations throughout several North Side neighborhoods, noted Mary Ann O’Neil, event coordinator.

The route will include Redondo Road, Gypsy Lane and Wick and Carlotta avenues, she added.

Also coordinating the effort is Councilman L. Nathaniel Pinkard, D-3rd.

Along the way, attendees can take part in group photographs in front of the large Christmas tree in Central Square, downtown.

Prizes will be awarded to the best-decorated homes, O’Neil said, adding that Santa Claus is to make an appearance for youngsters.

Those interested in having their homes in the contest or riding the buses are asked to call O’Neil at 330-747-5170 or 330-651-5447. Riders should be at Heartreach between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m., she noted.
