Girlfriend sues police over Farrell shooting

FARRELL, Pa. (AP) — A woman has sued two unnamed officers and their police department in the fatal shooting of her unarmed boyfriend during a disturbance on Thanksgiving two years ago.

Southwest Mercer County Regional Police Chief Riley Smoot Jr. says he can’t comment the federal lawsuit filed by Taliea Robinson.

She’s the administrator of the estate of 27-year-old Donteau Napier, who was her fiance when she called 911 to report that he was armed, suffering from bipolar disorder, and ranting about wanting to have a shootout with police.

Two officers arrived and fatally shot Napier outside a vehicle, though it was later determined he didn’t have a gun.

The district attorney later determined the shooting was justified, but Robinson contends Napier was wrongly gunned down because he was “clearly emotionally disturbed, but not a threat.”
