Campbell police investigate theft of copper and metals

CAMPBELL

City police were called to Casey Industrial Park early Monday after Struthers police noticed the theft of copper and metals from a vacant building in the complex.

An officer from the Struthers Police Department told city police that he’d been parked near the bridge on state Route 289, when he noticed a light-colored truck leaving the area of the Pennsylvania and Lake Erie Diesel Locomotive building.

He added that he saw two stocky men get out of the truck, after he followed it to a residence in the 100 block of South Bridge Street in Struthers.

When Struthers and Campbell police entered the vacant building, they immediately noticed that all of the structure’s copper and metals had been taken for scrap. They also saw a large piece of iron that appeared to have been used for iron casting, but was missing two pieces.

Police observed those two missing pieces in the bed of the truck parked in the driveway of the South Bridge Street residence.

An incident report rather than a criminal report was filed, however, as police are unsure if the property is the city of Campbell’s or Mahoning County’s.
