Two Ohio natives have been named Rhodes Scholars and will enter England’s prestigious Oxford University next October.

Adam Mastroianni of Monroeville in northern Ohio and Courtney Wittekind of Mason in southwestern Ohio are among 32 college students nationwide to win the scholarships, announced Sunday.

Wittekind says both she and Mastroianni found out at the same time Saturday that they had won after a final interview in Indianapolis.

She says she thought she was hallucinating, and that Mastroianni double-checked with her that his name was called.

Mastroianni is a senior at Princeton University in New Jersey, studying social psychology. Wittekind graduated last year with an anthropology degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania.

Rhodes scholarships provide all expenses for two or three years of study at Oxford.
