NASA to visit YSU

YOUNGSTOWN

Experts from NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland will be at Youngstown State University on Dec. 5 as part of the “NASA Roadshow” to provide no-cost engineering consulting for four area companies that are facing technical and manufacturing challenges.

The four local companies, all of which previously had applied for consulting support, were selected by an independent panel, based on how well NASA Glenn’s technical expertise could help with the companies’ technical challenge. Applications for technical assistance were then reviewed by representatives from NASA Glenn and matched with NASA subject matter technical experts.

The confidential consulting sessions will be in YSU’s Kilcawley Center, followed by a networking luncheon with representatives from YSU, NASA Glenn, MAGNET (Manufacturer’s Advocacy and Growth Network), and the selected companies. Featured luncheon speaker is Antonio Riley, administrator of the Department of Housing and Urban Development Region V.

BOARDMAN

Barnes & Noble at the Shops at Boardman Park, 381 Boardman-Poland Road, is having a book fair Dec. 14 and 15 to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.

Barnes & Noble stores across the country give local schools and nonprofit organizations the opportunity to raise money for their organizations by letting them “take over” the store for a weekend.

When customers bring in vouchers or mention at the register that they are shopping to support Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, a percentage of their sale goes back to the hospital.

There also will be activities including visits from the hospital’s Doggie Brigade, specialty drinks in the cafe, and holiday activities and crafts. All funds raised support the Reach Out and Read Program operated by the hospital.

Visit www.akronchildrens.org/events to obtain a book fair voucher.
