Man seeks reduced sentence in baby son’s death

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A judge says a suburban Philadelphia man got the sentence he deserved in the death of his three-month-old son.

Twenty-four-year-old Jameel East of Towamencin pleaded guilty to third-degree murder for striking Enzo East’s head against a bathroom sink after the infant vomited on him.

Montgomery County Judge William Furber Jr. handed down a 15- to 30-year sentence in June.

The Intelligencer said East’s attorney is asking a higher court to reduce the sentence, alleging the judge failed to consider factors including East’s age and his law-abiding life before the 2011 killing.

Furber has asked the state Superior Court to uphold the sentence.
