SOV board names Richard Limongi executive director designee

Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services Director Donald Kacmar is slated to retire by the end of 2014, and Richard Limongi, SOV-Boardman associate director, has been named executive director designee.
The SOV board of directors, headed by Dennis Parks, promoted Limongi at its annual meeting last Monday.
Kacmar announced in June that he would retire by the end of 2014. His 30th anniversary with the SOV was in July.
The reason the decision was made to promote Limongi at this time was to ensure a smooth transition when Kacmar retires next year, officials said.
“The board has worked diligently to select my successor, and following a national search, it found that the skills and talents of the group of associate directors we already have stood out above the external candidates,” Kacmar said.
Limongi brings extensive experience to the executive director’s position.
A graduate of Ohio University, he worked for Park Vista Retirement Community for several years before joining the SOV staff in 1991. At SOV, he has been responsible for the daily operations of SOV-Boardman, a 109-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation community, and was the first administrator for SOV-Poland.
Corporately, he is the compliance officer, rehabilitation coordinator, legislative advocacy coordinator, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliance officer, staff education coordinator and integrated care delivery services coordinator.
“I would like to thank the board of directors at Shepherd of the Valley for this great opportunity,” said Limongi. “Having been an employee of this corporation for 24 years, I have seen the growth of the organization and see future opportunities as well. I would also like to personally thank Don Kacmar, my mentor and direct supervisor, without whose guidance over the years, this promotion would not have been possible.”
Kacmar is a native of Uniontown, Pa. He received his bachelor’s degree from Temple University, which he attended on a football scholarship.
During his tenure as executive director, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services Inc. has grown from one location in Niles with fewer than 100 employees supporting 170 residents to five sites in two counties and a home-health agency serving more than 750 elderly residents and clients and employing nearly 500 people.
He also spearheaded, along with Lutheran Social Services of Northern Ohio and St. Luke Lutheran Community, the Manor at Howland Glen building project, which created a 50-unit, income-adjusted apartment community In Howland for people 62 and older.
“For the last 30 years,” Kacmar stated, “it has been my pleasure to have worked with some of the finest people in my profession. Our staff and board members have routinely shown thoughtful care and compassion for those we serve.”
In addition to his responsibilities as executive director, Kacmar also is chief executive officer of Shepherd’s Foundation, a separate not-for-profit corporation charged with raising benevolent funds to support SOV residents and programs. Also, he periodically has served as a business consultant for Lutheran Services in America.
Limongi lives in Niles where he also serves on the board of education. He and his wife, Amy, have three children: Kerryn, Chelsea and Richard Jr.
