Piccinich, Phantoms earn rare win in Sioux City

J.J. Piccinich had a goal and an assist and the Youngstown Phantoms earned their first-ever victory at the Tyson Events Center, dropping the Sioux City Musketeers 4-1 in a United States Hockey League game on Saturday.

Colin DeAugustine had 28 saves for the Phantoms (7-11-2, 16 points), who were 0-3-1 at Tyson entering the game. Kyle Hayton made 16 saves for Sioux City.

Josh Nenadal opened the scoring at the 3:32 mark of the first period, giving the Phantoms a 1-0 lead off an assist by Tommy Parran.

Sioux City tied it at the 15:26 mark on a goal by Nikolas Olsson. He was assisted by Daniel Kucerovy and Blake Heinrich.

In the second period, Zach Evancho scored at 1:32 off assists by Josh Melnick and Conor Lemirande, giving the Phantoms a 2-1 lead.

Youngstown made it 3-1 at the 12:50 mark when Kyle Connor scored off assists by Tyler Spezia and Piccinich.

Piccinich then sealed the win in the third period, scoring off an assist by Truman Reed at 16:26.

The Phantoms will play at Indiana on Wednesday night.

Youngstown’s next home game will be Dec. 6 against the Chicago Steel.
