Natural-gas fuel event in Brookfield

BROOKFIELD

A program at Yankee Lake Ballroom, 1814 state Route 7, will feature an update on the Utica Shale and highlight the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel.

Participants will include individuals and companies converting vehicles to use natural gas and building refueling stations. The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 5.

Ohio could benefit from gas exports

Ohio could stand to gain as many as 30,000 jobs from U.S. exports of liquefied gas by 2035, according to a study commissioned by the American Petroleum Institute.

Those exports also could boost the state’s economy by $5 billion, the study showed.

Corporex building hotels in Ohio

Corporex is building five hotels in Ohio, spurred by high demand from the energy industry around the Utica Shale.

The company already has broken ground on two hotels and plans to begin construction of two more sites in Canton and St. Clairsville in 2014.

Chamber to host networking event

HOWLAND

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will host its Holiday After Hours networking event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Magnuson Grand Hotel, 9519 E. Market St.

Refreshments will include beer, wine, and a hot chocolate and coffee bar. Guests may also participate in holiday-themed karaoke and get their pictures taken by a professional photographer. The cost is $20 for chamber members and $30 for nonmembers.

Farrell to break ground on center

FARRELL, Pa.

The city of Farrell, in conjunction with Penn Northwest and the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, will break ground on the Farrell Commerce Center on Tuesday.

U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly of Butler, R-3rd, is the keynote speaker.

The Commerce Center, part of Farrell’s economic development plan, aims to attract new businesses to increase job growth in the area.

Financing for the project is provided by the city’s revolving loan fund and Bridgeway Capital, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit bank.

The event starts at 11:30 a.m. on Lee Avenue Extension in Farrell.

Elite Tactical to have ribbon-cutting

NILES

Elite Tactical Firearms and Training will open Monday with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at its location at 223 Youngstown-Warren Road.

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will join owners Cathy and Nick Macchione at 5 p.m. to open the facility, which specializes in providing concealed-carry weapons and training.
