Joanna Lenefonte, daughter of Joseph and Mary Jo Lenefonte of Youngstown, has graduated from the University of Dayton School of Law with a specialization in criminal law. She passed the Ohio State Bar Examination in July and was sworn in by the Ohio Supreme Court in November.

At Dayton Law, Atty. Lenefonte received an award for Best Advocate and Best Appellate Brief, Best Oralist Award at the New York City Bar Association National Moot Court Competition, UDSL Service Award, and UDSL Social Justice Award and was a finalist in the Walter H. Rice Moot Court Competition. She also was the executive president of the Student Bar Association throughout her three years in law school. Lenefonte graduated from Dayton Law with honors in May.

For her undergraduate studies, Lenefonte graduated cum laude with research distinction from Ohio State University in July 2010, majoring in criminology with a minor in Italian. She is a 2006 graduate of Boardman High School.

She is working at Beck Law Office LLC in Beaver Creek, Ohio, specializing in criminal defense, wills, deeds and other areas of general practice.

Honors

The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center Volunteers Association has been recognized as the recipient of the 2013 Thomas Say Naturalist Award of Excellence for an Organization.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, Thomas Say was an American naturalist who identified more than 1,500 species of insects and animals unique to North America.

His work helped blaze the trail for future naturalists. This national award is given annually to a volunteer organization that offers outstanding front-line interpretation programs, has contributed significantly to natural-heritage interpretation and has served the community through projects and programs.
