Coats for kids in Mercer County
HERMITAGE, PA.
PNC Bank has teamed up with Operation Warm, United Way of Mercer County and Mercer County Head Start to provide 100 local children with brand new coats this winter.
United Way of Mercer County and Mercer County Head Start will work with school districts and agencies to match preschool children with the variety of colors and sizes of coats available.

Sharon Regional volunteers honored
SHARON, PA.
Maxine Horstman received the Janet L. Patterson Award for 2013 Volunteer of the Year for the Sharon Regional Health System at the hospital’s annual Volunteer Awards Luncheon.
The award, presented to Horstman by Lynn Pyle, director of volunteers, is given to the volunteer who exemplifies enthusiasm, service and dedication to the hospital system.
Joyce Reis, hospice clinical coordinator, presented Hospice Volunteer Service Awards to Judy Bottenfield, Shirley Stewart and Evelyn Trkula for five years of service.
Alyce Parrish and Olive Thompson received flowers for 50 years of volunteer service, and were also recognized for volunteering 20,000 hours each. Others recognized included Howard Ham, 25,000 hours; Angie Leonard, 15,000 hours; Alma Cullen, 6,000 hours; Hedy Walker, 5,500 hours; and Joanne Bisson, 5,000 hours.
Vets office closed for long weekend
YOUNGSTOWN
The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission office in Oak Hill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., Suite 100, will close at 4 p.m. Wednesday and reopen at 8 a.m. Dec. 2.
