The Youngstown State baseball team has added five players to its roster.
Matt Becker (Puyallup, Pa.), Trey Bridis (Woodbridge, Va.), D.J. Carr (Mesa, Ariz.), Dominic Farina (North Huntington, Pa.) and Nathan Neiderhiser (Ligonier, Pa.) have each signed a letter of intent to play for the Penguins.
The five players will join the squad for the 2014-15 season.
Bridis, Farina and Neiderhiser are seniors in high school while Becker and Carr are sophomores at junior colleges.

The Youngstown State women’s golf program will play host to the first Penguin Snowball Golf Camp at the WATTS on Jan. 4.
The camp is open to any female junior high or high school golfer and is scheduled for three hours, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Four Phantoms among draft Players To Watch

Youngstown Phantoms forwards Maxim Letunov, JJ Piccinich, Kiefer Sherwood and Luke Stork are included on NHL Central Scouting Service’s latest “Players To Watch” list for the 2014 NHL draft.
Letunov and Piccinich are in their first year of NHL draft eligibility while Sherwood and Stork are second-year eligible skaters. All four are projected as mid-round draft candidates.
The U.S. National Team Development Program and the Dubuque Fighting Saints are the only USHL teams with more players on the list than the Phantoms.
The Phantoms will be in Iowa to play the Sioux City Musketeers tonight at 8 p.m.

There will be 12 MMA cage fights tonight at the Yankee Lake Brawlroom 39 on State Route 7.
Scheduled are 185- and 155-pound title fights plus 10 other local matches. Gates open 6 p.m. and fights start at 7:30 p.m.

Lakeview’s Gysegem wins PSAC honor
CLARION, PA.
Clarion junior Emilee Gysegem was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s swimmer of the week.
The Lakeview graduate won all eight individual events and was a part of three winning relay teams against Grove City and Carnegie Mellon.

The McDonald Basketball Boosters will meet in the high school cafeteria on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.

Jamaica anti-doping members resign
KINGSTON, Jamaica
All 12 members of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission have resigned amid questions about drug testing on an island that has produced some of the world’s top track stars.
Jamaican Sports Minister Natalie Neita-Headley says the 12 commissioners agreed to step down to give the government what she described as “a fresh start” as it reorganizes the commission. The resignations take effect Dec. 31.
Trainer gets to 1,000 harness racing wins
WASHINGTON, Pa.
Ron Burke became the first harness racing trainer to record 1,000 victories in a year when Magic Starlight won the eighth race at The Meadows.
Magic Starlight beat stablemate Darena Hanover by 41/4 lengths, finishing in 1:53 in the $18,000 fillies and mares preferred. Dave Palone was the winning driver.
Burke got win No. 1,001 later Friday when Lucky House won at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
