Installation service

WARREN

York Avenue Church of God, 872 York Ave. SW, will conduct an installation service at 5 p.m. Dec. 1 for the Rev. Eric U. Brown Sr. as the senior pastor.

He will be installed by the Rev. Abraham Jeter of Cleveland.

The Rev. Mr. Brown and his wife, Christol, have four children and a grandson.

He has lived in Warren for 22 years and also has been a master barber for 22 years. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for 24 years.

He was a former associate minister with York Avenue Church of God. He was called by the congregation of the Community Church of God, where he served as senior pastor for five years.

Mr. Brown graduated from Youngstown State University. He is an ordained minister with the Church of God in Anderson, Ind.

Nativity display

villa maria, pa.

The Sisters of the Humility of Mary will present the eighth annual Nativity display from noon to 5 p.m. next Saturday and Dec. 1 and Dec. 7 and 8 at Villa Maria Community Center, Evergreen Road.

The free, indoor exhibit will feature hundreds of Nativities from around the world.

Free- will offerings will be accepted.

Musical entertainment by local choirs and musicians is scheduled.

The Villa Shoppe will be open and offers Fair Trade items.

The Villa farm’s home-grown poinsettias and Christmas wreaths and swags also will be sold.

Free, light refreshments will be served both weekends. A full-course roast beef dinner will be served from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 1. Ticket prices are $10 for a large and $6 for a small. A spaghetti dinner will be noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 8; $7 for a large and $5 for a small. Children 7 and younger are free and take-out is available.

Lessons and carols

YOUNGSTOWN

St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., will present the annual Advent Service of Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m. Dec. 1.

The Cathedral Choir, directed by Dr. Daniel Laginya, will be accompanied by harpist Nancy Paterson and organist Mary Ann Bilas-Bush.

The program will feature Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” and familiar carols from England.

Free parking is available and security will be provided. Refreshments follow in the Cathedral Hall.

Musical drama

AUSTINTOWN

Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2432 Raccoon Road, will host the Carpenter Family who will present “Peace on Earth,” a musical and dramatic drama of “Josiah,” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2.

A free-will offering will be taken.

Refreshments will follow.

Call to prayer

YOUNGSTOWN

Clergy from NOW Youngstown will meet for prayer gatherings from 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays at Ohio Valley Teen Challenge, 1319 Florencedale Ave.

The group will pray for the community.

Choir anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN

The New Generation Choir of Phillips Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, 1407 Victor Ave., will celebrate its anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Young adult choirs, soloists, praise dancers and mimes from area churches are invited to participate.
