Georgia men face multiple charges

Staff report

BOARDMAN

Boardman police arrested three Georgia men after an investigation of forgery, criminal simulation and complicity to passing bad checks.

Lorin Burt Jr., 24, Robert Stith, 23, and Darion Jordan, 22, are in Mahoning County jail on the charges.

At 11:23 a.m. Nov. 20, an informant went into Cortland Bank on South Avenue and cashed a $2,962.09 check. The informant then gave the money to one of the suspects while in a vehicle.

Police then stopped the vehicle and found the cash under the driver’s seat. The check was from Jones Processing Inc. The company informed police that the check was, in fact, fake.

Boardman police obtained a search warrant after the incident for a hotel room rented by the suspects.

Inside, police found multiple items including two miscellaneous checks, pieces of a check inside a phone book, miscellaneous blank checks, three plane tickets, a typewriter and more including multiple phones, briefcases and bags.

While searching through the room, a man walked in and police questioned him about why he was there. He allowed police to search a black suitcase he said was his. Inside the suitcase was a phone with text messages from another man that contained the addresses for various Cortland Banks.

Stith, Burt and Jordan were arraigned Thursday and they have a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Jan. 14 in Mahoning County Court Boardman.
