Wrong way driver arrested for driving drunk

CAMPBELL

A 24-year-old Poland man was arrested early Friday for driving drunk, among other charges, after city police noticed him driving his truck the wrong way down a one-way street.

At 12:05 a.m. Friday, police pulled over the driver — later identified as Jeremy J. Starr, of Shetland Avenue — on Wilson Avenue.

Before the officer could identify himself or the reason for the stop, Starr told police he did not have a driver’s license, that he was extremely drunk and that he’d stolen the truck from his father. He added that he had a warrant for his arrest from the Struthers Police Department.

The officer immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the inside of the truck, and from Starr. He also spotted an open can of beer on the floor and a case of beer on the passenger’s seat.

Starr refused to submit to field sobriety tests and also refused to take a blood alcohol content test at the police station.

He was charged with driving under the influence and driving under suspension, and also for having an open container and driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

Police then turned Starr over to the Struthers Police Department.

He is set to appear in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
