YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. received funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to expand training for residents looking to start their own urban farms and community gardens. The organization received a $296,816 federal grant in September from the Community Food Project, but the USDA announced the award Thursday.
YNDC was one of 26 projects across the country to receive a slice of $4.87 million in total awards.
Arrested in robbery
NEW castle
New Castle police arrested Brian Keith Misner on Thursday in connection with an armed robbery. Misner, 23, is believed to be responsible for robbing the Tic-Toc food mart Sunday. Police discovered Misner’s connection to a robbery at El Dorado Motel in Shenango Township during the investigation, according to a press release.
A search warrant issued for Misner’s residence on Park Avenue in New Castle led to the discovery of items believed taken during the robberies. Misner is charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, firearms not to be carried, prohibited offensive weapons and terroristic threats. Shenango Township police will charge Misner separately in the El Dorado robbery.
House fire Thursday
LAKE MILTON
Multiple fire departments were called to a blaze at 16726 Pickering Street in Milton Township at 7 p.m. Thursday. Milton Township, Berlin, Newton Falls and Harris Township fire departments responded. Information on the occupants of the home was unavailable. The state Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
