POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Nov. 11

Criminal damaging: A yard decoration was damaged in the 6500 block of Lowellville Road.

Nov. 18

Identity theft: A Forest Hill Avenue woman discovered $1,100 worth of fraudulent activity to her credit-card account.

BOARDMAN

Nov. 14

Theft: A man took $150 worth of merchandise, including a pair of children’s gloves, from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Aggravated menacing/harassment: An office manager with a Tiffany Boulevard doctor’s practice told police a caller claiming to represent the U.S. Department of Homeland Security demanded to speak with one of the physicians. The doctor then reported the man claimed a federal arrest warrant was pending against the accuser’s wife, supposedly for failing to pay income taxes, and that she needed to pay $4,000 to resolve it. The caller further stated he was holding a gun to another person’s head and hung up, a police report showed.

Theft: A dealer license plate was stolen off a car at a Market Street dealership.

Criminal mischief: A woman at a red light near Market Street and Indianola Road reported the driver in front of her tossed what appeared to be syrup from his window and struck her vehicle.

Nov. 15

Aggravated menacing: Brandi D. Anderson of Mount Vernon Avenue, Youngstown, was arrested at the Mahoning County jail on an aggravated-menacing warrant after his girlfriend, of Hillman Way, alleged the 35-year-old Anderson had threatened to kill her and her four children during an argument.

Theft: A Lealand Avenue woman noticed $20 missing from her purse.

Vandalism: A door to a residence in the 4000 block of Hillman Way sustained $300 in damage.

Criminal damaging: Someone did $90 in damage to a glass-block basement window of a residence in the 2300 block of Hunters Ridge Drive.

Theft: An East Midlothian Boulevard woman accused a former roommate of using her debit card to make $345 worth of unauthorized charges.

Possible attempted theft: A Shields Road woman told authorities she caught two people, including her landlord, using a key to try to enter her apartment mailbox.

Attempted fraud: A Walker Mill Road girl reported a male caller claiming to be a police officer tried to scam her of money, saying that a family member had been arrested in Mexico City on drug charges and that a $1,400 money order needed to be sent immediately.

Theft: Three women stole more than $1,000 worth of lotions, creams and other related products from Bath & Body Works, 379 Boardman-Poland Road.

Menacing: A Trenholm Road woman reported a neighbor has engaged in a long-term pattern of harassment against her. Most recently, the neighbor threatened to burn down her residence if she called police, she told them.

Criminal damaging: Two concrete blocks were damaged at a home in the 7400 block of Sierra Madre Trail.

Theft: Marcus R.S. Pearson, 25, of Cambridge Avenue, Youngstown, was arrested on two counts of theft after being accused of taking a jacket, a pair of tennis shoes and other items from Sears in Southern Park Mall and Dick’s Sporting Goods, 550 Boardman-Poland Road.

Nov. 16

Theft: A 14-year-old Youngstown boy was charged in the theft of $206 worth of clothing from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A worker with a Southern Park Mall jewelry store discovered five rings totaling $520 missing from her purse.

Arrest: Police responded to a one-car crash near Sunset Boulevard, where they charged Rodney D. Sanders II, 22, who listed Youngstown addresses on West Boston and Neilson avenues, with operating a vehicle impaired.

Harassment: A security guard with Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, 6505 Market St., said her former boyfriend sent at least 30 text messages and left 20 voicemail messages, including a threat to shoot her.

Theft: A Mineral Ridge boy, 13, was charged, accused of stealing a 124-piece play set valued at $13 from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 7400 block of Market Street used pink paint to scrawl an obscene symbol on a car.

Breaking and entering: A residence in the 5100 block of South Avenue was entered via a kitchen window, though it appeared nothing was missing.

Theft: Ashley R. Gibson, 29, of Katherine Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing three pairs of shoes totaling $273 from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.

Child endangerment: A worker for a restaurant in the 500 block of Boardman-Poland Road told officers two children, one age 4, were left unattended. One of the youngsters told the employee his father had left, a report said.

Theft: Five women stole $1,269 worth of merchandise from Babies “R” Us, The Baby Super Store, 1240 Doral Drive.

Attempted burglary: Someone tried to kick open a side door to enter a home in the 300 block of Argyle Avenue.

Theft: A Canfield woman reported her purse stolen at Southern Park Mall.

Assault: Gregory L. White, 46, of Applecrest Court, Boardman, was charged with simple assault after a neighbor alleged that an intoxicated White had come to borrow an item, then kicked the accuser’s left calf and punched his stomach after being asked to leave.

Theft: A township woman at the Southern Park Mall noticed her $700 iPhone missing.

Nov. 17

Citations: A traffic stop near Lake Park Road led to minor-misdemeanor citations charging 21-year-old Corey M. Breckner of Hitchcock Road, Boardman, and 22-year-old Salman Khan of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, with having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Drugs: Police in the 600 block of East Midlothian Boulevard pulled over and issued a minor-misdemeanor citation to 28-year-old Raymond J.L. Opre after saying Opre, of Edward Avenue, Canfield, had suspected marijuana seeds and a small bag with suspected marijuana residue.

Criminal mischief: Several juveniles reportedly spray-painted a portion of Lemont Drive in the 1800 block.

Misuse of a credit card: A Lealand Avenue man found that four charges totaling $277 had been made to his bank account without consent.

Harassment: A Moyer Avenue man said his former girlfriend has made and sent a series of unwanted calls and text messages.

Drugs: Tessa N. Telshaw, 19, of Homestead Drive, Boardman, was accused of having a suspected marijuana stem and part of a marijuana cigarette after officers pulled her over near Ewing Road.

Domestic violence: Nasereddin J. Tabanja, 24, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, was charged with the crime after his wife alleged Tabanja had punched their 2-year-old son. The boy had no visible injuries, though a child-abuse investigation was pending, police said.

Nov. 18

Domestic violence: Albert D. Byrd, 19, of Hillman Way, Boardman, was charged after his girlfriend alleged Byrd had tossed a popcorn tin during an argument, striking her hand, then pushed her into a bedroom closet before punching the accuser and pulling her hair.

Criminal mischief: A Lockwood Boulevard woman said her roommate ransacked the accuser’s room.

Breaking and entering: Someone removed 10 gallons of gasoline from a vehicle in a garage in the 100 block of Erskine Avenue.

Theft: An estimated $300 worth of gift cards was taken from a Boardman-Canfield Road car dealership.

Theft: A customer received but failed to pay for $312 worth of medals and other items from Custom Awards & Gifts, 5944 Market St.

Domestic violence: Brandon C. Bame, 28, of West Boulevard, Boardman, was charged with the crime after his girlfriend alleged Bame had punched her several times in the chest and arms and knocked her over.

Criminal damaging: Two vehicles in the 7100 block of Ron Park Place were damaged. One had a slashed tire; the other had scratches on its passenger side.

Assault: A Prestwick Drive woman alleged a neighbor had struck her head during an argument, resulting in a bruise.

Possible theft: A Midwood Circle woman reported her wallet lost or stolen.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 100 block of Lemans Drive was found with a damaged trunk lid.

Identity theft: An elderly Glenbrook Drive woman learned someone had tried to open a credit-card account in her name.

Criminal damaging: An Applecrest Court woman saw that her garbage can was knocked over and that an outdoor children’s toy had been tossed and broken.

Arrest: A traffic stop near Huntington and Pheasant drives led to 48-year-old Pamela M. George’s arrest. George, of Fox Run Drive, Boardman, was wanted on warrants charging criminal trespassing and obstructing official business.

Theft: Michelle L. Rafferty, 30, of Woodland Chase Boulevard, Niles, was charged, accused of stealing a 100-foot roll of indoor wiring valued at $194 from Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd.

Domestic violence: Anthony J. Fusco of Cook Avenue, Boardman, faced domestic-violence and assault charges after his girlfriend alleged Fusco, 29, had choked her during an argument, resulting in bruises to her neck. Fusco also was accused of punching another person in the head.
