Metro Mutts Jingle Hike: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 8, meet at the MetroParks Bikeway Trailhead, MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana Canfield Road, Canfield. Bring a canine companion for a holiday hike. Dogs will receive a jingle bell collar; owners will enjoy hot cider and treats in the barn following the hike. Easy hike, two miles, weather permitting.

A McKinley Christmas: 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7. Historic Niles locations will each explore a phase of William McKinley’s life. Meet 7-year-old William and his family celebrating Christmas in 1850 at the Birthplace Home, 40 S. Main St. A trolley will transport guests to the Ward-Thomas House, 503 Brown St., to explore McKinley as a solider in the Civil War. Finally, guests will go back to the McKinley Museum, 40 N. Main St., to discuss McKinley as president. The event will also feature an ornament craft project for kids and a visit with Santa.

Month-Long Holiday Celebration: 4 p.m. Dec. 5, 12, 19, teen room of Newport Branch Library, 3730 Market St., Youngstown. Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to celebrate each December holiday.

Noel Night: 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6, Volant Mills shops, Volant Mills, Pa. Appetizers and special will be offered at Volant Main Street businesses. The folk/ storyteller music of Rick Bruening will be featured.

North Jackson Community Tree Lighting Ceremony: 7 p.m. Nov. 23, gazebo at Jackson Park, Township Administration Building, 10613 Mahoning Ave., North Jackson.

New Years Eve Party: Doors open 7 p.m., dinner 7:30 p.m., Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Old Fashioned Christmas at the Mill: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Lanterman’s Mill in Mill Creek Park will be open for the last weekend of the season, dressed in holiday finery. Potters, tinsmiths and woodcarvers will demonstrate their crafts. Roasted chestnuts and a visit with Santa will be offered. Santa will visit MetroParks Farm and bring some of his unusual animal friends from around the world. Kids can pose with Santa in his sleigh for a photo and will create a special craft to celebrate the holidays.

Sharon Holiday Extravaganza: Noon to 8 p.m. Nov. 30, downtown Sharon, Pa. A “downtown shoparound” will be noon to 6 p.m. and offer 12 “CashMobs” of Christmas, free entertainment and refreshments, an “Arts Alive” event with local artists, a festival of trees, photos with Santa, free trolley rides and chanced to win prizes donated by local merchants. The Night of Lights will be 6 to 8 p.m. Horse-drawn sleigh-rides, entertainment on State Street bridge, free hot chocolate and candy, food vendors, lighting of the community Christmas tree and torch, a visit from Santa and fireworks will be part of the event.

Stewart House Christmas Tours: 1 to 5 p.m., Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, and 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6, 13, Stewart House, Hermitage Historical Society, 5465 E. State St., Hermitage, Pa. Winter Celebration - A Garden Conservatory: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tue.-Sun. Dec, 7 through Jan. 5, Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown. The Davis Center will showcase holiday color with floral displays and decorated trees in a specially built conservatory. Bring children to walk through the greenhouse and they will take home a new plant. The Center will be open Dec. 30, but will be closed Christmas and New Years days.

Youngstown’s Holiday Parade and Festival: 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7, downtown Youngstown. Winter Wonderland at 20 Federal Building, 20 W. Federal St., starting at 1:30 p.m with local vendors and children’s activities. OH WOW! Center, 11 W. Federal St., will be open and free to the public during the Dec. 7 event. Holiday parade starting 3:30 p.m. at East Federal Street traveling to West Federal Street. Santa will arrive, Christmas Tree Lighting and winners of the 2013 Holiday Window decorating contest will be announced at the main stage in Central Square at the close of the parade. Santa and Mrs. Claus will go to 20 Federal Building following the parade to visit with children and take pictures. The Youngstown State University photography department will provide families with one free photo; additional copies will be available.
